We Art Water Film Festival

    We Art Water

The We Art Water Film Festival is an international short-film competition organised by the We Are Water Foundation. The aim is to raise awareness and generate notoriety about the world's water problem.

If film is your big passion and you want to help spread awareness about the water problem – participate! You can enter any of these categories: Micro-documentary, Animation, or Mobile.

Winners may film a documentary about one of the Foundation´s projects.

There are three categories you can enter:

    • Micro-documentary. Demonstrate your talent for synthesis and your narrative skill in telling a story, whether real or fictional.
    • Animation. These days, animation techniques cross over into illustration, from basic stop-motion to cutting-edge 3D. There are more options available than ever before, and they're all valid.
    • Mobile. The most modern category is also the freest; the only requirement is that the story be recorded using a mobile device.

Entries must meet the following requirements, among others:

    • Have been originally created for participation in this festival.
    • Address the theme chosen by the UN for World Water Day 2012: "Water and food security"
    • Last between one and three minutes.
    • Audio or texts that form part of the works must be in English or subtitled in English.
    • They must start and end with the official billboards of beginning and ending.
    • Must be submitted between 14 November and 30 April.

The jury will award three prizes, one for each category. There will also be a fourth prize -the public prize-, which will go to the creator of the video that has received the most votes on the Festival's website.

The theme of the short films must be based on the concept of Water and food security, a theme chosen by the UN for World Water Day 2012.

World Water Day is celebrated every year on 22 March. This international event aims to draw attention to the importance of fresh water and to encourage the sustainable management of water resources, by highlighting a particular aspect of water. The theme chosen for 2012, “Water and food security”, seeks to further explore these two closely-related concepts, and the lack of which is causing severe crisis in increasingly more areas across the world.

According to the UN, food security exists when anyone can satisfy their dietetic needs in order to have an active and healthy life; and water is one of the fundamental factors for food production.

This problem can be better understood when you realise that between 2,500 and 5,000 litres of water are required to produce the food that one person needs each day and, at present, this quantity is not guaranteed.
